Solaris wins new bus contracts in Denmark, Italy and SpainCAF Group company Solaris — based near Poznan in Poland — has secured new contracts to supply electric buses in Europe: 14 24m units for the Danish city of Aalborg, 30 units for the Italian city of Genoa, and 24 units for Barcelona These contracts are worth about 45 million euros.

The 14 Urbino 24 model electric units (pictured) for the Danish operator Tide Bus in the city of Aalborg, represents a first-of-its-kind order in Europe, both in terms of the length of the vehicle (24m) and its design — called MetroStyle.

This model, which was specifically designed for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, will be equipped with two traction motors with a total capacity of 240kW (powering two motor axles), and a Solaris High Energy battery pack with a total capacity of more than 700kWhr.

Each of the 14 e-buses will also be equipped with a number of driver assistance systems: these include the MirrorEye system, with cameras replacing rear-view mirrors and side mirrors; and the Mobileye Shield+ system, which eliminates any risks caused by vehicle blind spots. The buses will also be equipped with eSConnect, a fleet diagnostic tool designed to both improve operating efficiency and facilitate maintenance.

The 30 electric buses for the operator AMT (Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti SpA) in Genoa are part of the Italian operator’s plan to electrify the city’s entire bus fleet. The Urbino 12 buses, which accommodate 24 passengers and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022, will also be equipped with the MirrorEye system. In 2020, CAF Group-supplied vehicles accounted for almost 70% of the market share of electric buses supplied in Italy.

The 24 new Urbino 12 buses for the Barcelona transport operator TMB are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2022. They will be powered by Solaris High Energy batteries, and can be recharged either by pantographs or plug-in technology.

Moreover, with the appropriate battery and infrastructure configuration, they can operate up to 24hr a day. Solaris vehicles were first incorporated in the TMB fleet in 2015. Since then, all the vehicles Solaris has supplied to TMB have been equipped with hybrid or electric drive systems.
