The new ToolShuttle from Trumpf Ltd, Luton
(www.uk.trumpf.com), reduces press brake set-up time by as much as 50%, increasing productivity and simplifying the operator’s tasks. It stores up to 160m of bending tools — on four levels and in a closed housing. The company’s principal goal when developing the system was to provide a central repository for tools that are not in use, protecting them from production debris and damage; the option of an air dryer enhances corrosion protection.
The ToolShuttle control system loads the required tool onto the input/output station; it is then transferred via slide to the tool clamping point. This saves time spent searching for the tool and the physical effort involved in tool loading. The system also saves space; its footprint is less than 6m2, but the ToolShuttle comprises 32 storage compartments, each holding up to 5m of bending tools. Moreover, tools can be stored by type or grouped together for a specific job or families of parts.
