Broanmain Plastics to ‘get personal’ at Southern ManufacturingDorking-based Broanmain Plastics, a specialist in the manufacture of high-specification plastic components, will showcase a number of high-profile projects it has recently undertaken at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2024, which is taking place 6-8 February at the Farnborough International Exhibition Centre (Stand C195).

From supporting the market launch of precision motion sensors (pictured right) by Cucumber Lighting Controls, to manufacturing and assembling commercial retail weighing scales for Avery Berkel, visitors will see how Broanmain adapts and makes a personal difference to each and every customer project, large or small. Also on display will be the innovative fire-compliant magnetic door device from Fireco, part of the Lagercranz Group.

Working collaboratively with each company’s engineering team, every Broanmain project is managed by technical experts. From high-volume production runs to precision moulding, CNC finishing and assembly, Broanmain is one of the few UK plastic specialists to offer all of the tool design, moulding and setting techniques, and prototype development from one facility. As many Broanmain customers will testify, this coordinated approach results in shorter development lifecycles. It also helps to expedite tool and material testing and resolve production issues faster.

Highlighting the value this adds to projects, Fireco engineer Matt Ball explained: “Broanmain not only shares its tool-making expertise, it also delivers a personalised service. Furthermore, it has the manufacturing capacity to scale up production to meet future market demands.”

For many domestic OEMs, having direct access to local due diligence provides extra assurance. Especially when the company is focused on sustainability and supporting the local economy. Cucumber Lighting Controls was adamant that it wanted to partner with a dependable British moulder that could react to and challenge their product innovations.

Cucumber Lighting Controls CEO Mark King said: “Manufacturing components on UK shores is by far the most sustainable way to create a product that will be sold and used here. The logistical benefits of appointing a British company that has the capacity to mass mould and store components for us, combined with a skilled and collaborative team that can oversee the design and production of technical tools, adds immeasurable value.”

From mouldability and feasibility studies to reverse engineering and reworking existing product blueprints, the Broanmain team combines its polymer and tooling expertise with application and functionality knowledge.
