Okuma integrates more CNC machines with OSP-P500The latest version of Japan-based Okuma’s user-friendly OSP-P500 CNC control, launched in June last year, and available in the UK from Coventry-based NCMT, the sole supplier of Okuma and Makino CNC and EDM machines to the UK and Ireland, is being rolled out across more of the company’s extensive range of machine tools to ensure customers are well-prepared to meet current and future manufacturing challenges. Besides exceptional user-friendliness and more climate-friendly possibilities, the new control also offers robust protection against the threat of cyber attacks.

Moreover, with the new OSP-P500 CNC control, Okuma is helping to address key customer requirements, such as the growing shortage of skilled labour — it is easy to navigate even for inexperienced users — and the increasing demand for sustainable, energy-efficient production.

GENOS M-5AX five-axis vertical machining centres already feature the OSP-P500 control as standard. This allows companies to benefit from even greater precision, much faster machining times and reduced CO2 emissions. With an optimum price/performance ratio, compact footprint and ease of operation, this series is described as an ‘ideal entry-level model for machining a wide range of materials’.

Meanwhile, the range of MU-400VIII and MU-500VIII five-axis machining centres are now being integrated with the OSP-P500 to achieve maximum productivity and precision for process-intensive machining. The machines’ large work areas ensures that even highly complex workpieces up to 700mm in diameter can be efficiently machined. As part of Okuma’s ‘Green Smart Machines’ initiative, both machining centres are specially designed for low-emission and energy-saving operation and come with ECO Suite Plus. In addition, Okuma’s intelligent technologies features, such as the Thermo-Friendly Concept, are used to ensure maximum accuracy and process efficiency.

Another machine which is being integrated with the OSP-P500 control is the MA-600HIII horizontal machining centre which provides maximum cutting performance and dimensional stability, and requires significantly fewer resources to run efficiently. It is designed for use in production of components for railways, the construction machinery, the automotive industry, and agricultural sector. An extremely durable and powerful spindle supports a wide range of applications.

The MB-80V vertical machining centre has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of economical heavy machining combined with fine machining for optimum precision. Thanks to the new version of the OSP-P500 CNC control, the machine offers significant productivity gains when machining medium to large parts.

Furthermore, the MB-46VII,MB-56VII and MB-4000H machining centres have now been equipped with the innovative new machine control, with other machine series to follow later in the year. Okuma will be extolling the the benefits of the OSP-P500 at the AMB trade fair in Stuttgart in September (Hall 10, Stand D71). Numerous machines with displayed featuring the innovative control system and engineers will be on hand to discuss its ground-breaking features in detail.
