Roxtec to showcase substation optimisation technology

Roxtec to showcase substation optimisation technologyGlobal cable and pipe seal manufacturer Roxtec will showcase its industry-leading substation technology at Ireland’s Substation Safety Conference & Expo 2024, taking place 1-2 October in Portlaoise. The Roxtec team is attending this event for the first time to demonstrate how its superior cable and pipe sealing solutions help to optimise and improve substation performance (Stand A3).

Roxtec is a global leader in the manufacture of innovative cable and pipe transit systems, supplying many of the world’s largest organisations. A major area of business for Roxtec is substations and its world-class, flexible cable sealing solution mitigates the risk of water ingress which can generate increased humidity, leading to partial discharge. This, in turn, helps to prevent high voltage electrical equipment breakdowns and subsequent loss of power supply in these often sensitive environments.

It does so by keeping them dry, while maintaining optimal conditions for switchgear and electrical equipment and reducing the risk of system failures which often arise as a result of inadequate specification of cable transit systems. The seals also offer robust protection against environmental hazards such as fire, gas, water, EMI, dirt, dust and rodents, while providing efficient bonding and grounding capabilities.

Additionally, Roxtec UG transits are perfect for underground use and for cables and pipes entering through foundations and can even be installed in running water conditions. To support this growing area, Roxtec recently recruited a dedicated technical sales manager across energy and industry amid plans to strengthen its presence in the Republic of Ireland and show commitment to customers based there. In this role, Ian Gunn will spearhead the Greater Manchester headquartered Roxtec Ltd’s ambitious growth strategy in Ireland, which is seeing it make major inroads in sectors ranging from renewable energy to pharma.

Roxtec UK managing director Clive Sharp said: “Ireland is a key territory for driving growth across a range of energy and industry sectors. Attending key industry events such as this year’s Substation Safety Conference & Expo will play a big role in our expansion journey. We are delighted to have Ian support our team, as well as our efforts when it comes to delivering premium quality cable sealing systems and solutions to help combat complex issues arising across the substation landscape. We now look forward to growing our offering, alongside developing the business in other strategic areas.”

Roxtec has a track record in providing reliable substation cable sealing to UK distribution network operator and overseas electricity authorities. Typical applications include sealing cables into control rooms, service rooms and control boxes at the high or medium voltage electricity substation.

Roxtec H3 seals prevent water ingress generating increased humidity leading to partial discharge and eventual loss of power supply into 11kV, 33kV and 132kV sub-stations. Roxtec cable seals provide sealing solutions, with spare capacity for future cables, to prevent water ingress, gas migration and rodent infestation from damaging substation electrical equipment and causing loss of power supply.

This is because electrical substation cabinets for control and switching and any other cabinets used inside or outside the substation should be sealed against environmental hazards that may disturb the functionality of sensitive electrical and electronic equipment.
