Geely Auto Group — a leading automotive manufacturer that is based in Hangzhou, China, and was founded in 1997 as a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group — recently started production of its global best-selling models, the Coolray and Emgrand, at the BAMC plant in Egypt’s third-largest city of Giza.
The company said that as Geely’s inaugural CKD facility in Africa and the Middle East, this plant will ‘catalyse the modernisation of Egypt’s automotive manufacturing sector while bringing world-class intelligent mobility solutions to local customers.
Geely’s Egypt CKD plant is the country’s first ‘advanced facility’ capable of producing both ‘sedan cars’ and SUVs on the same production line. It said: “The CKD plant leverages laser welding technology and industrial robotics, a first in Egypt, to achieve significantly higher manufacturing precision and superior product quality; and using the flexibility and scalability of Geely’s BMA architecture, the plant boasts Egypt’s first dual-platform production line, pioneering significant advancements in manufacturing processes and production efficiency; and with an annual production capacity of about 30,000 units over the next three years, the facility is poised to expand its localisation efforts by assembling additional models in the near future.”
Michael Song, Geely Auto Group’s vice president, added: “Amid Egypt’s transition toward intelligent mobility, Geely is committed to leveraging its global manufacturing expertise and brand strength, fostering local talent, and collaborating with local suppliers to deliver premium, diverse, and smart mobility experiences for customers.”
Fahad Alghanim, CEO of Auto Mobility — Geely Auto’s distributors in Egypt — added: “As one of the most strategically significant markets in Africa and the Middle East, Egypt continues to draw global attention through its distinct advantages, with new opportunities and potential emerging across this ancient land. Geely Auto’s plan for localised production answers the Egyptian government’s strategic initiative to strengthen its automotive industry. This endeavour promises to not only drive economic growth but also generate high-quality employment opportunities, injecting fresh momentum into the local economy.”
