New helical milling cutter offers ‘three-times-longer tool life’Now available from Seco Tools (UK) Ltd is the new LN4-11 helical milling cutter. The company says this cutter, which is available in diameters from 32 to 63mm, ensures high material removal rates while providing up to three-times longer tool life per edge.

“The LN4-11 provides machine shops with several avenues to cut costs and improve profitability, while its adaptability to accommodate a variety of applications enables shops to reduce tooling inventories and associated costs, with operators simply changing the cutter’s inserts to go from one application the next. Furthermore, the tool’s front and helical insert pockets also eliminate the risk of incorrect insert placement, improving efficiency and reducing waste.”

Magnus Engdahl, a Seco product manager, added: “With the new Seco LN4-11 helical milling cutter, it is impossible to load the inserts of the cutter incorrectly. Moreover, every cutter body and insert feature an individual Seco data matrix code that provides access to cutting data and spare-part tracking. These cutters provide enable machine shops to improve productivity and efficiency while overcoming the challenges created by lesser skilled operators.

“The milling cutter features two different inserts. There are two cutting edges on the front inserts and four edges on the helix inserts — a design that allows robust machining operations and aggressive material removal rates. Moreover, inserts are available in a broad range of grades and geometries for a variety of operations and materials. Indeed, the LN4-11 meets the demands of general engineering, automotive applications, and those in the aerospace sector.”
