Lawton Tubes to expand into nearby facilityCoventry-based Lawton Tubes, a leading manufacturer and supplier of copper tubing products, is to invest £20 million in a new facility, just a few metres from its current headquarters on Torrington Avenue. The company says that within three years, the expansion will see the construction of a 120,000ft2 two-storey building that will house its manufacturing, storage, and office operations.

Giles Lawton, Lawton Tubes’ managing director of operations, said: “This is a significant step forward for our family-run business, which continues to grow at a rapid pace. With an annual turnover of £230 million and a team of 140 staff at our four sites in Coventry, Redditch, and Poole, we are committed to building a future that supports both our employees and customers. We are pleased to announce the successful purchase of the former Sandvik site on Torrington Avenue, a purchase that was facilitated by Peter Holt of Holt Commercial, Coventry.

“Our vision is to transform the entire five-acre site into an advanced distribution centre and new head office for Lawton Tubes. We will again partner with Fusion Building Consultancy. The redevelopment is set to be completed within the next 30-36 months, marking a significant milestone in our company’s growth.”

Enduring success story

He continued: “Lawton Tubes has long been a success story for the region, exporting to over 40 countries worldwide. We are incredibly proud to have earned the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise, a testament to our achievements in international trade. Our copper tubes serve critical industries, from healthcare and construction to major sporting venues. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we played a crucial role in supplying copper tubing to the Nightingale hospitals, demonstrating our commitment to serving communities in times of need.”

Robert Lawton, Lawton Tubes’ director of marketing and international sales, and a fourth-generation member of the family business established in 1918, said: “We are thrilled to announce our investment in a facility that will serve as the foundation for our continued growth. With increasing global demand and strong sales growth across new markets, now is the ideal time to invest in our future.

“Copper’s sustainability is becoming more widely recognised; it can be endlessly recycled and has natural antimicrobial properties. This has driven demand across all our sectors, reinforcing the need for expanded space and new technologies to support our next phase of growth. We see this expansion as more than just an investment in our business but also an opportunity to deepen our engagement with the local community.”
