GE Aerospace to partner BETA on hybrid aviationGE Aerospace has entered a strategic partnership with BETA Technologies, committing a $300 million equity investment to accelerate hybrid electric propulsion development for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The collaboration aims to co-develop a hybrid electric turbo-generator system for VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) and future BETA aircraft, leveraging GE’s turbine and certification expertise with BETA’s electric propulsion innovation.

The system will integrate GE Aerospace’s proven CT7 and T700 engine platforms, targeting enhanced range, payload, and speed. GE Aerospace will also gain a seat on BETA’s board, reinforcing its commitment to next-generation flight technologies.

This move builds on GE Aerospace’s prior milestones, including megawatt-class hybrid propulsion testing at simulated altitudes of 45,000ft. BETA brings real-world flight data and in-house electric systems from its ALIA aircraft, designed for all-weather performance and low acoustic footprint. Together, the companies aim to deliver scalable, certifiable hybrid solutions to meet growing AAM demands.
