Avelo Airlines, a low-cost carrier based in Houston, Texas, recently placed a firm order for 50 Embraer E195E2 aircraft, with purchase rights for 50 more. The list-price value of the order is $4.4 billion (excluding purchase rights) with aircraft deliveries expected to begin in the first half of 2027. Avelo will be the first US carrier to operate Embraer’s E195E2s, the manufacturer’s ‘largest and most advanced commercial aircraft’. They will modernise Avelo’s fleet and ‘complement its Boeing 737NGs for the foreseeable future’.
Avelo said: “The E2’s excellent short-field performance, enabled by E2TS (Embraer enhanced take-off system) technology, will not only open new markets but also drive efficiency in many of our existing airports. This capability — along with the aircraft’s range, fuel efficiency, and small noise footprint — establish it as the ideal aircraft to expand Avelo’s network.
“The aircraft’s exceptional performance, size, and efficiency make it the perfect choice for the future growth of our scheduled service network. The airline industry in the United States is evolving, and the E2 fits perfectly with our vision for Avelo’s role in that evolution.”
Arjan Meijer, Embraer Commercial Aviation’s president and CEO, added: “The E195E2 is a gamechanger for airlines that want to grow profitably while elevating the guest experience. Avelo complements its narrowbody fleet with the best-in-class E195-E2. Its exceptional fuel efficiency, quiet operations, and shortfield capability will unlock new markets and optimise capacity across its network.
