Sandvik Coromant’s Halesowen Centre sets new standardsSandvik Coromant is reaffirming its position at the forefront of metal cutting and manufacturing technology with its ‘state of the art’ Sandvik Coromant Center in Halesowen. Now recognised as a central hub for machining innovation in the UK, the facility is designed to meet the evolving needs of industry, bringing together advanced tooling, digital solutions and deep application knowledge to support sectors including aerospace, automotive, energy and general engineering.

Part of Sandvik Coromant’s global network, the Halesowen site plays a pivotal role in supporting British manufacturing, fostering an environment where the future of production is being shaped through cutting-edge innovation and strategic collaboration. The company has been based at the Black Country location since 1958, with a new purpose-built facility opening on the same site in 2023. Today, it serves not only as the home of the Sandvik Coromant UK team but also as a centre for training, networking, product demonstrations and industry engagement.

Visitors to the centre are offered more than just tooling support. They are introduced to Sandvik Coromant’s ‘Manufacturing Wellness’ philosophy — a holistic approach aimed at improving productivity, reducing waste and promoting sustainability across the supply chain. With expert guidance and live demonstrations, manufacturers are equipped with practical insights to optimise their metal cutting operations.

The Halesowen centre also strengthens Sandvik Coromant’s position as a provider of advanced digital services and automation technologies. Following significant investment, the facility now houses two cutting-edge education stations, featuring a five-axis DMG Mori DMU 80 eVo milling machine and a Mazak Integrex i-200S AG lathe. A dedicated Digital Area enables live demonstrations, remote support and digital training sessions, extending the centre’s reach to a global audience.

Packed calendar of events

Over the past year, the centre has welcomed thousands of visitors through a packed calendar of events, training sessions and collaborative projects tailored to the UK’s manufacturing landscape. Highlights have included the Mastercam 2025 Open Day, which offered a preview of the latest CAM innovations; a Siemens Workshop exploring automation and connectivity in machining; the exclusive MSP and Vericut event Right-First-Time CNC Machining: Making the Virtual a Reality; and a Summer Aerospace Event showcasing high-tolerance machining solutions.

Nick Goater, cluster manager UK and Ireland at Sandvik Coromant, said: “Halesowen not only showcases cutting-edge metal cutting technology, but it is also shaping the future of UK manufacturing. This Center represents our commitment to supporting the industry with the tools, skills and strategies needed to thrive in a rapidly changing landscape.

“It is more than a technical centre, it is a transformation hub. By combining our tooling expertise with digital innovation and customer collaboration, we are creating a unique space where UK manufacturers can find solutions to their challenges and accelerate their growth. It also creates a culture where meaningful connections happen, one that brings together industry peers, engineers and global experts to generate new opportunities and collaborative breakthroughs.”

A major technology and automation Open House titled Reimagining the Future: Shaping Tomorrow Through Technology, Digital Innovation & Automation is set to take place 7-8 October. The event will be supported by a strong line up of partners including Kuka, Mastercam UK, MSP, Renishaw, Siemens, Vericut and Zoller. For further information visit the website here.
