Safer operations for Refresco through Tadweld partnership

Safer operations for Refresco through Tadweld partnershipA leading Yorkshire steelwork specialist has helped enhance safety and efficiency at a major local manufacturing site following a series of complex upgrades.

Tadweld, a Yorkshire-based steelwork expert, has successfully partnered with global beverage solutions provider Refresco, based in Pontefract, to design and install bespoke access platforms and structural steelwork at its Pontefract facility. The project ensures safe and practical access to both new and existing equipment while allowing production to continue uninterrupted.

Following recent line upgrades at the site, Refresco required tailored solutions to support engineer access across multiple areas of the factory. Tadweld responded with a series of custom-built platforms, stairways and modifications, including a critical filler access installation completed in just two weeks - from initial site survey and material procurement through to final installation.
The fast-paced delivery minimised disruption and eliminated downtime, while maintaining high safety standards throughout.

The project presented several technical challenges, including working from third-party drawings while adapting designs in real time, installing large multi-stair crossovers between conveyor systems, and relocating existing structures without interrupting live production. Tadweld also developed an innovative solution for accessing a new filler unit, despite its final position only being confirmed at the point of installation.

To overcome these challenges, Tadweld worked closely with both the project and on-site teams, refining layouts and iterating designs to achieve the most effective outcome. Existing walkways were modified to improve workflow efficiency, while high-level platforms were repositioned to accommodate new packaging lines - requiring precise calculations, fabrication of new components, and seamless integration with existing structures.

Careful coordination of fabrication and installation schedules, alongside detailed site assessments and strict adherence to safety procedures, ensured all work was completed efficiently and safely.
The result is a flexible, future-proof access system that supports ongoing operations while allowing for further modifications as production evolves. Multiple complex installations were delivered with minimal disruption, and the final access solution was completed within tight project timelines.

Chris Houston, of Tadweld, said: “We’re proud to have supported Refresco with a project that demanded both precision and flexibility. Working in a live production environment always brings added complexity, but through close collaboration and careful planning, we were able to deliver safe, efficient access solutions without impacting operations. The speed and adaptability of our team were key to the project’s success.”

Richard Marsh, engineering projects manager at Refreco said: “Partnering with Tadweld has been a seamless experience from start to finish. They delivered safe, efficient access solutions quickly, with minimal disruption to our production. Their flexible approach and professionalism made a real difference, and we’re very pleased with the results.”
