Doncasters, the international manufacturer of high-precision alloy components, has announced a landmark $52 million investment in its Bochum site in Germany — one of the most significant capital programmes in the company’s history. The three-year initiative will transform Bochum into one of the most advanced facilities globally, capable of producing the most complex large industrial gas turbine castings currently in production, while supporting capacity growth and long-term development.
Work has already begun inside the factory to prepare for new ‘state of the art’ equipment. Additional DS furnaces will be installed progressively from December, complementing an extra furnace already being fitted this year. The installation programme will continue over the next 12 to 18 months to ensure phased and efficient integration.
Spring 2026 will see ground works start for a new 3,000m
2 production hall, scheduled for completion by the end of that year. The hall will provide space to relocate equipment from the main building and introduce new large core manufacturing capabilities, forming the foundation of a Centre of Excellence for Core Manufacturing at Bochum.
Mid-2027 will mark the installation of a fully automated shell line, with the overall programme extending into 2028. These developments will significantly increase capacity, strengthen capability and position the site to capitalise on long-term growth opportunities.
Indy Rattu, Doncasters president — Europe, said: “The new production hall will give us increased capacity and support committed customer volumes. It is part of a wider capital programme that will accelerate further in 2027 and 2028, putting Bochum firmly at the forefront of Doncasters’ global capabilities.”
The Bochum facility specialises in the manufacture of vacuum cast blades and vanes, as well as the superalloys used in their production. The expansion will also create new employment opportunities, with additional roles across engineering, production and finishing as Doncasters continues to grow its Bochum team. This programme represents a defining chapter for the site and underlines Doncasters’ commitment to innovation, capability and growth.
