Joby expands manufacturing with second Ohio facility

Joby expands manufacturing with second Ohio facilityJoby Aviation Inc, the company developing electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, has announced plans to acquire a manufacturing facility in the Dayton, Ohio area spanning more than 700,000ft2. The site, which is ready for immediate occupation, will initially support Joby’s goal to double production to four aircraft per month by 2027, while providing space for significant future growth. Operations at the new facility are expected to begin this year, complementing Joby’s existing production sites in California and Ohio.

JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, said: “This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, it can also serve as a base for significant future growth, as we turn a decade of engineering into the manufacturing scale the market is now demanding. From the world’s first aircraft factory to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton has long been the epicentre of aerospace innovation and we are proud to be building the next generation of flight right here.”

He continued: “The re-industrialisation of Ohio has become central to Joby’s story and with unmatched governmental and policy support, we are ready to make sure that the commercial and defence aircraft that define the future of flight are built in America.”

Round-the-clock operations

The announcement follows Joby’s recent expansion of its Marina, California facility in July 2025 and the start of propeller blade production in Ohio in October. To support the planned increase in output, Joby began procuring capital equipment last month to double manufacturing capacity, while hiring continues at its California site to enable round-the-clock operations.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said: “From the Wright Brothers to Joby Aviation, Ohio has always been where the future of flight takes shape. Joby’s expanded manufacturing presence in Vandalia and the Miami Valley brings together our state’s rich aviation heritage with our world-class advanced manufacturing workforce to build the aircraft that will redefine how people and goods move through our cities.”

Joby’s expansion comes amid growing policy momentum for advanced air mobility. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy recently announced a national strategy for AAM, providing a clear roadmap to accelerate deployment and integration. This aligns with the FAA and DOT’s plans to launch the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) in 2026, validating operational use cases and flight routes ahead of final type certification.
