Maeving secures investment to help power motorcycle industryA new name is making its mark on the British motorcycle industry as electric manufacturer Maeving continues to expand from its Coventry base — a city long regarded as the cradle of UK motorcycle production. The company has attracted significant backing, including a £500,000 investment from West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker through the West Midlands Co-Investment Fund (WMCO), managed by Future Planet Capital Regional. The contribution forms part of an £11 million funding package designed to accelerate Maeving’s international growth across key markets such as North America and Europe.

Mayor Parker (pictured below) said: “Maeving represents the very best of West Midlands innovation and there is nowhere better than Coventry – the original beating heart of the British motorcycle industry – for them to set up and write a new success story. Motorcycle production is a proud part of Coventry’s identity. Maeving means its future in Coventry is bright. This investment shows that the ‘green industrial revolution’ is happening in the West Midlands, creating high-quality jobs for local people and cementing our place as a dynamic exporter and a leader in advanced manufacturing."

Backing fast‑growth sectors such as advanced manufacturing and ‘green’ technology is a central element of the Mayor’s West Midlands Growth Plan, which aims to boost the regional economy by £17 billion over the next decade. The plan targets the creation of 100,000 jobs, 120,000 new homes, major transport improvements and higher living standards.

Best-selling motorbike brand

Maeving’s approach is also strengthening the wider UK supply chain, with almost three‑quarters of the components used in its motorcycles sourced domestically. The company has quickly become the UK’s best‑selling electric motorcycle brand, outperforming both Chinese imports and major global manufacturers including Kawasaki and BMW. Revenues have quadrupled since 2023, while the firm’s RM1S model has secured the Motorcycle News Electric Bike of the Year 2025 award.

MaevingCo-founders Will Stirrup and Sebastian Inglis-Jones developed the brand with practicality in mind, equipping the motorbikes with removable batteries that can be charged from any household plug socket. Reflecting on the company’s progress, Mr Inglis-Jones said: "From day one, our vision for Maeving was to bring electric motorcycle manufacturing to the West Midlands, building on the region’s incredible heritage. We believe electric motorcycles have the potential to radically transform our cities for the better, making them cleaner, quieter, cheaper, and healthier places to live, and we are immensely proud to be the leading electric motorcycle manufacturing company in the UK. The support from the West Midlands Co-Investment Fund isn't just financial; it is an endorsement of our vision for a green revolution in personal transport, and it means we can create more high-skilled, high-paid jobs right here in Coventry.”

British engineering heritage

The WMCO, established by the WMCA and the West Midlands Pensions Fund, was created to provide up to £1 million in equity support for innovative, fast‑scaling businesses. Rupert Lyle, investment director and fund principal at Future Planet Capital, said: “Maeving’s combination of British engineering heritage with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology is a story of innovation meeting impact. The West Midlands Co-Investment Fund was established to nurture high-growth potential SMEs like Maeving that can supercharge the regional economy. The company’s trajectory, and the high-skilled jobs it is creating, are exactly what we aim to achieve. We provide not just capital, but a wealth of experience to help these businesses scale.”

The £11 million investment round brings together notable backers, including UK funds Venrex, Future Planet Capital and Elbow Beach Capital, supported by angel investors such as John Ayton MBE, co-founder of Links of London, and Simon Hill-Norton, founder of Sweaty Betty. HSBC has also provided a £3 million working capital facility.

In addition, Maeving recently secured more than £1.1 million in grant funding from Innovate UK and the Advanced Propulsion Centre to support development of its next generation of electric motorcycle technologies. This latest fund-raising follows an earlier seed round in 2020, which attracted high‑profile investors including Peter Williams, founder of Jack Wills, and entrepreneur Spencer Matthews.
