XYZ celebrates 25-year partnership with MTT Howard Bamforth (Centre) XYZ’s export sales manager introduces Colin Black (Left) and Richard O’Keeffe (right) to the new XYZ 400 UMC during their recent visit

Ireland-based Machine Tool Technologies (MTT), which has a facility in Limerick has forged a long and fruitful partnership over the last 25 years with XYZ Machine Tools Ltd that has assisted manufacturers of one-offs and small batches in Ireland to be both productive and efficient.

MTT became an agent for the sales and support of the extensive XYZ range of products when the business was established in 2001. Richard O’Keeffe, founder and managing director, said: “Throughout my professional career, I was aware of the XYZ products and the way they assist engineering firms to become more productive and efficient. When starting MTT, I wanted to work with XYZ Machine Tools to be able to promote its machines, and importantly, the ProtoTRAK control in Ireland. I fully understood how these products could help the many workshops in Ireland to be cost competitive in the manufacture of machined parts.”

In the 25 years of trading, MTT has supplied many machines to a variety of engineering firms across the country — from small agricultural repair shops to large medical device companies. Mr O’Keeffe continued: “We have a wide variety of manufacturing across Ireland, but the XYZ products have proven themselves to be a valuable addition to many companies over the last 25 years.”

The new 400 UMC impresses

During a recent visit to XYZ Machine Tools’ Devon-based head office in Burlescombe, Mr O’Keeffe and Colin Black, MTT’s operations manager, were introduced to the latest machine to join the XYZ portfolio — the 400 UMC five-axis bridge-type machine. Mr O’Keeffe was immediately impressed with the compact footprint of the machine which boasts a 400mm tilt rotary table and X, Y and Z travels of 800 x 600 x 510mm. Howard Bamforth, XYZ’s export sales director, demonstrated the machine in action explaining that it can be upgraded from its standard 4+1 configuration to a simultaneous five-axis machine, either on purchase or later during ownership. This offers genuine flexibility when it comes to machine purchase.

Mr Bamforth concluded: “Although over the last few years there have been challenges for MTT with Brexit and difficult economic trading conditions, it has continued to sell a wide range of XYZ products and will continue to be an important member of our European distribution network moving forwards.”
