Starrag to present full portfolio at MACH 2026Starrag Bumotec 191neo

Birmingham-based Starrag UK Ltd is set to debut a range of new technologies not previously seen in the UK at MACH 2026, taking place 20-24 April at the NEC, Birmingham (Hall 19, Stand 320). Following a year marked by significant product development, the company will present new machining platforms alongside its expanding digital showroom. Taking centre stage will be the latest Bumotec 191neo, machining ‘live’ a complex medical component to demonstrate its market-leading capabilities.

Often referred to as the ‘Swiss army knife’ of machining centres, the Bumotec 191neo builds on the established Swiss platform with what Starrag describes as a comprehensive bar or billet production solution. The machine features next‑generation linear motors, seven axes and three spindles, with five simultaneous machining axes and a tooling capacity of up to 90 stations. At MACH, visitors will see the machine perform an air‑cutting demonstration of a multi‑tool medical turbine component requiring 16 tools and a wide range of simultaneous operations.

Starrag has engineered the new Bumotec 191neo with a strong focus on accessibility and operator visibility. Large glass panels and strategically placed access doors offer clear views into the machining area, while an upgraded Windows‑based touchscreen HMI supports real‑time monitoring of machining progress, setup and production data. The intuitive interface is intended to assist manufacturers grappling with the ongoing shortage of experienced operators across industry.

The 191neo is available in several configurations, including single‑vice ‘P’, multi‑vice ‘PRM’, and counter‑spindle/vice combination ‘RP’, with bar capacities of 42, 50 or 65mm. The version on display at MACH will be the counter‑spindle ‘R’ model, equipped with a re-take spindle for secondary rear‑end operations. Starrag positions the platform as ‘12 machines in one’, a reflection of the modular design that allows users in medical device manufacturing, luxury goods production and micromechanics to configure systems for specific applications.

Additional options such as temperature‑controlled high‑pressure coolant, chip conveyors and bar loaders allow further customisation. In addition to turning, milling, grinding and polishing, the machine can perform more specialised operations such as gear hobbing and diamond cutting, enabling complex workpieces to be completed in a single set‑up.

Starrag will also highlight several larger recent additions to its portfolio that are too substantial to display on the show floor. Among these is the Dörries VT 28 vertical turning centre, designed for components weighing up to 17 tonnes with diameters of 2.8m and heights of 2.65m. The machine provides a main S1 drive rated at 98kW and 11kNm of torque, positioning it for demanding applications in aerospace, power generation and offshore engineering where stiffness and precision are essential.

The company’s High Performance Machining Systems division will present the Heckert X‑series of five‑axis machining centres, which includes the X50, X70, X80 and X90 models. These machines offer increased capacity, improved work envelopes and a 20% reduction in footprint compared with earlier versions. Productivity benefits are delivered through 80mm ballscrews and rapid traverse rates of 80m/min, while the modular design supports tool magazines of up to 600 tools and payload capacities of up to two tonnes.

Starrag’s digital strategy will be represented by its virtual showroom platform, providing visitors with interactive access to the full Bumotec turn/mill range and wider product family. The company also plans to highlight the Droop+Rein FOGS HD at MACH 2026. Designed for the machining of large and complex workpieces, the six‑axis overhead gantry system is available in a wide range of sizes with X-axis travels of 3-31m, Y-axis travels of 3-6m, and Z-axis travels of 1.5-2.5m. The machine combines dynamic performance with torque outputs between 2,400 and 7,500Nm, enabling precision machining of large components across numerous industrial sectors.

Starrag will underline the breadth of its machining solutions at MACH 2026, from compact ultra‑precision systems to large‑format platforms designed for the most demanding production environments — all supported by advanced digital tools.
