Faro CreaForm has announced an update to its Laser Line Probe (LLP) portfolio that aims to reduce scanning times and improve data quality when measuring parts with challenging surface finishes.
The enhancement, available across the company's LLP range used with the Quantum X FaroArm and Quantum Max FaroArm series, introduces refined image-processing algorithms designed to improve scan consistency on dark, reflective and high-contrast components commonly found in manufacturing environments.
Laser line probes are widely used for non-contact inspection, reverse engineering and CAD comparison applications, but scanning difficult surfaces can often require additional setup, multiple passes and manual adjustments to achieve reliable results. Faro CreaForm says the latest update addresses these issues by improving the way scan data is processed, enabling users to generate cleaner and more consistent point clouds with less effort.
At the heart of the update is DTEX, the company's approved LLP processing pipeline. According to Faro CreaForm, internal benchmarking on representative components has demonstrated time-to-data improvements of up to 60% without compromising measurement integrity.
The company says the software enhancements reduce the need for users to fine-tune acquisition parameters, helping streamline inspection and quality workflows while maintaining established measurement practices.
The update also highlights the capabilities of the Faro 8-Axis Max rotary worktable, which is designed to extend the reach and flexibility of FaroArm-based measurement systems. When combined with a Quantum X FaroArm and DTEX-powered LLP, the metrology-grade worktable enables larger or more complex parts to be measured within a single coordinated workflow.
By tracking part rotation through integrated encoders and synchronising that data with measurements captured by the arm, the system allows scan data to be collected more efficiently across the entire component while reducing the need for repositioning.
The improvements extend across the FAROBlu LLP family, including the high-resolution FAROBlu xR, the high-throughput FAROBlu xS and the balanced-performance FAROBlu xP. Users of the Quantum X FaroArm series will also benefit from improved scan accuracy and confidence across a wider range of surface finishes.
Faro CreaForm says the release is focused on delivering additional value to existing FaroArm and LLP users without requiring new hardware investments. By refining the image-processing layer and simplifying the scanning of difficult surfaces, the company aims to help manufacturers improve productivity in inspection, reverse engineering and quality-control applications.
