NCMT celebrates 50 years of Okuma partnership at open house NCMT will celebrate 50 years of partnership with Japanese machine tool manufacturer Okuma at an open house at its Coventry Technical Centre on 18 - 19 November.

The relationship began in 1976 and NCMT is still exclusively supplying Okuma technology to manufacturers across the UK and Ireland today. The anniversary event will give visitors the opportunity to explore that heritage, meet NCMT’s engineers and discuss their own production challenges.

During the open house, attendees can see six machines on show , representing successive eras of engineering progress. Among the machines on show will be the Okuma MULTUS B200II W, which combines turning and milling to help manufacturers reduce separate set-ups. Its sub-spindle enables components to transfer between spindles for further machining, reducing repeated handling and re-fixturing.

The larger MULTUS U4000 2SW x 1500 will also feature, offering a maximum turning diameter of 650mm and a 1,500mm turning length. Built around a rigid flat-bed structure, the MULTUS U platform combines substantial Y-axis travel with powerful milling capability, providing scope to bring demanding turning and milling work together within one machine.

For visitors assessing vertical machining capacity, the GENOS M560V-e will illustrate Okuma’s approach to rigidity, thermal stability and accuracy. The model offers a 1,300 x 560mm table, 32 tools and a standard 12,000 rev/min spindle, providing a starting point for discussions about matching machine capability to component requirements.

Completing the line-up are the GENOS L3000e MYW, combining turning, driven tooling, Y-axis capability and a sub-spindle; an LU3000 EX displayed without its covers to reveal its mechanical construction; and a fully operational refurbished LR15-M that has been cutting metal for around 40 years. Together, the exhibits connect contemporary manufacturing capability with the longevity of earlier Okuma engineering.

Jonathan Smart, managing director of NCMT, said: “Our 50-year partnership with Okuma is built on shared standards, trusted relationships and a long-term commitment to engineering excellence. It is a rare milestone and one we are proud to celebrate but it also gives us a strong foundation for what comes next and both NCMT and Okuma are focused on the next 50 years, and the technological advances manufacturers will need. We invite manufacturers to join us in Coventry on 18 and 19 November to see that legacy in action and explore the technology shaping the next 50 years.”
