Obituary – Yon Mayhew

Yon Mayhew, the co-author of Engineering Thermodynamics: Work and Heat Transfer, has died aged 89. The book, written with fellow Bristol university academic Gordon Rogers in 1957, has sold an estimated million copies and remains in print.
Joe Quarini, professor of process engineering, says: “At Bristol, we have it as our recommended text and we teach thermodynamics from it. This is not because of lack of imagination, laziness or some misplaced loyalty to one of our former colleagues; it is simply because it is the best textbook available in the subject.”
