Tenneco-Walker, the manufacturer of vehicle exhaust systems, is to create 224 jobs at a new factory in Merthyr Tydfil after receiving funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The company, which currently employs 190 people in Tredegar, intends to open a second site at High Point in Dowlais. It has chosen to expand following an increase in orders for new and replacement exhaust systems from customers such as General Motors, Renault, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “This is an extremely important investment for Wales — and for Merthyr specifically. It will provide a substantial boost to the local economy, creating more than 220 new skilled jobs in one of our priority economic sectors. I am delighted that Wales was selected, as a number of other sites in Europe were under serious consideration for this project.”
