Mansfield-based Monsal has been bought by General Electric’s Power & Water division. The company, which provides the technology to convert bio-solids and bio-waste into renewable energy and saleable by-products, has a turnover of more than £10 million. One of the end products is bio-gas, which can be combusted to produce electricity and heat. It has more than 200 installed anaerobic-digestion systems.
Managing director Aidan Cumiskey (pictured) said: “GE’s global expertise and reach in the municipal and industrial water-treatment industry is world-class; it is very complementary to Monsal’s advanced digestion capabilities and our overall strategy for international expansion.
Joining the GE family will allow us to bring our technologies to a significantly broader audience, as well as giving us R&D capabilities at a much larger scale than we have now. We expect to expand our product and technology range, so that we become the ‘go to’ company globally for anaerobic digestion.
Heiner Markhoff, CEO of GE Power & Water, said: “The acquisition of Monsal will enable us to provide our customers with more energy-efficient options. Our waste-water treatment solutions can now be combined with advanced anaerobic-digestion technologies to convert bio-solids to renewable sources of energy for our customers.”
