Developed around a Fanuc Oi Mate-TD control and drives package to combine the versatility of single-operation turning tasks with the flexibility of CNC for batch working, the Ajax Evolution AJEV180 from Ajax Machine Tools International Ltd, Lymington (
www.ajax-mach.co.uk), has a swing of 360mm and between-centres distance options of 750 or 1,000mm.
With the machine’s Turn Mate i-touch screen and simple programming, the user has access to canned cycles, electronic hand-wheels and a profile editor. The control also accepts ISO-code programming and off-line feeds from CAD/CAM systems.
Featuring a heavy-duty bed and a 42mm spindle bore, the machine offers a choice of chucks. These include 160 or 200mm-diameter three-jaw self-centring chucks, 250mm four-jaw (independent) chucks, 160 or 200mm hydraulic chucks, and a programmable three-jaw chuck with a tailstock.
The specification also includes an automatic eight-station turret, sliding access doors and a 7.5kW main motor that provides spindle speeds up to 4,000rev/min.
Feed rates up to 750mm/min are available, while the rapid-traverse rates for the X and Y axes are 15 and 12m/min respectively. Options include travelling and fixed steadies, as well as a swarf conveyor.
