Honeywell opens aerospace lab in Puerto RicoHoneywell Aerospace executives joined members of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico at the ground-breaking ceremony for a new R&D laboratory in Moca, which is a municipality in the north west part of the island.

Over the past few months, Honeywell Aerospace has been working closely with the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co (PRIDCO) to design and develop an electromagnetic interference (EMI) laboratory to test the electromagnetic compatibility of its products.

Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla (pictured meeting future staff) said: “This project, which should be completed by October 2015, will give Puerto Rico its first aerospace technology laboratory. Honeywell Aerospace will use this centre to test the effects of electromagnetic interference on its products. This is a key project that advances the position of Puerto Rico within the aerospace industry.”

The project will create job opportunities for dozens of people and stimulate economic activity for several local contractors and suppliers.

Bob Smith, Honeywell Aerospace’s vice-president of engineering, said: “This new ‘state of the art’ facility in Puerto Rico will enable us to expand our core competency in designing, developing and testing a wide range of advanced aerospace avionics and electric power technologies. This move is a clear demonstration of our valued partnership with Puerto Rico, and it underscores our commitment to providing industry-leading aerospace solutions.”
