Balfour Beatty wins London Underground deal

Balfour Beatty’s Power Systems business has won the contract to design, upgrade and install over 40km of cables for the London Underground.
The project includes fitting 11kV and 22kV electricity cables, plus fibre-optic pilot cables, and decommissioning old high-voltage cables. Balfour Beatty was selected for three of the four work lots for the Power Cabling Framework, worth some £250 million.
William Naismith, Balfour Beatty Power Systems director, said that one of the reasons for awarding the contract to Balfour Beatty was the company’s commitment to employing young people; it has so far recruited four trainees and two apprentices for the project. Work starts this month and will be completed in early 2017.
