Ajax launches cost-effective CNC latheTo cater for the needs of sub-contract machine shops and educational establishments, Lymington-based Ajax Machine Tools International Ltd (www.ajax-mach.co.uk) has launched its UltraTurn CNC lathe, which retails from £14,995.

Users have a choice of the Fagor 8037 or Siemens 808D CNC system, which are fully conversational and guide the user through the programming process step by step.

These systems allow users to undertake a wide range of operations, from straight, taper and profile turning through to screw cutting and other more challenging tasks.

Full ISO programming can also be used, although programs can also be uploaded or downloaded via an RS232 port or the integrated USB or RJ45 ports.

The machine offers a swing over the bed of 402mm and can be supplied in versions with 750 or 1,000mm between centres.

Standard features include a coolant system, automatic bed-way lubrication, electronic hand-wheels for the X and Z axes, a four-way automatic tool-post, interlocking guarding and a chip collection system.

Among the optional features are a choice of a three- or four-jaw chuck, fixed or travelling steadies, live centres, face plates and an eight-station tool turret.
