Honda (
world.honda.com) and Japan Post have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to the future development and use of electric motorcycles for postal deliveries, the aim being to eventually replace the petrol-powered motorcycles currently in use for some local mail deliveries with electric ones.
Honda and Japan Post have maintained a fairly close working relationship for about the last 50 years, co-operating on the development of a number of motorcycle models.
A press release issued by Honda says: “Amid a growing consciousness concerning the global environment, businesses are expected to act in a more environment-responsible manner.
“Under such circumstances, Japan Post and Honda will jointly conduct demonstration testing on the use of electric vehicles for postal-delivery operation and charging stations at post offices.”
