XYZ seeks to grow its European distribution Burlescombe-based XYZ Machine Tools Ltd (www.xyzmachinetools.com) (Hall 27, Stand A10) will be using EMO to further develop its group of European distributors. The past few months have seen XYZ achieve record-breaking sales in Europe, and the company is planning for its participation in the exhibition to further build on this recent success.

Specific machines being shown are the ProtoTrak SMX 3500 bed mill, which features a 3.75kW (40-5,000rev/min) ISO40 spindle and axis travels of 787 x 508 x 500mm. This machine will appear alongside the SLX 425 ProTurn lathe, which is available with either 1,250 or 2,000mm between centres and a 480mm swing over the bed. Power is provided by a 7.5kW spindle, and the machine comes equipped with a three-jaw chuck, air-assisted tailstock and quick-change tool-
post as standard. Both machines are controlled by the ProtoTrak conversational control system, which is
compatible with off-line programming systems to allow the use of DXF or parasolid files — or G-code from CAM systems.

Meanwhile, the XYZ 2-OP on display allows users to rethink how they use machines and maximise the available spindle time. The machine’s compact design and portability allow it to be positioned anywhere in the machine shop, creating machining cells wherever they are needed. Axis travels are 355 x 305 x 455mm, while the 457 x 381mm table accommodates loads up to 250kg; the rapid-traverse rate is 15m/min in all axes. Machining capability is enhanced by the use of a 50-6,000rev/min BT30 spindle that is supported by an eight-position tool changer. The 2-OP has a footprint of just 1,220 x 760mm.

Meanwhile, the Compact Turn CT 65 being demonstrated includes a hydraulic chuck, 12-station VDI turret, Renishaw tool-setting system, swarf conveyor, tailstock and 15kW (4,500rev/min) spindle. Control is provided by a Siemens 828D ShopTurn conversational control.

Completing the stand display will be the recently introduced VMC 750 LR vertical machining centre. The three-machine LR range consists of the 500 LR, 750 LR and 1000 LR, with the designation relating to X-axis travel. The specification of the LR range includes the latest Siemens 828D control (with the option of the ShopMill Advanced software package) and an 8,000rev/min spindle (10,000 or 12,000rev/min are available as options). Other generic specifications include feed rates up to 20m/min for all axes, plus a 12- or 20-position carousel tool changer.
