Key partners of Wellesbourne-based Engineering Technology Group (
www.engtechgroup.com) will be at EMO. Machines to be featured for the first time include those from Nakamura-Tome, Chiron and Hardinge Bridgeport.
Nakamura-Tome (Hall 17, Stand B40) has two products: the SC300II multi-tasking machine and the heavy-duty NTY3-150 GR203 turn-mill machine with gantry. The SC300II with 10in-capacity chuck is a complete redesign of the earlier SC300 machine, offering a totally re-configured bed casting.
Key features include a 45deg slant bed for enhanced rigidity, a 22/18.5kW motor for more power, quicker ‘non-lift turret’ indexing to reduce idle time, a 71mm-diameter bar capacity as standard, and an all-Fanuc CNC and servo-drive package. Meanwhile, the NTY3-150 GR203 turn-mill is the new (and bigger) version of the NTY3-150, featuring a completely upgraded high-speed gantry system.
Chiron Werke (Hall 12, Stand C04) also has an emphasis on speed with its new DZ08FX Precision five-axis machining centre, which is described by the manufacturer as “probably the fastest twin-spindle five-axis machine in the world”. The DZ08FX Precision is based on a new drive concept that features non-contact electromagnetic linear guides in the X, Y and Z axes, raising the maximum speed and ensuring a noticeable increase in dynamic performance, as well as precision and surface finish.
Dynamic torque drives are used on the A and C axes. In production tests manufacturing different sizes of aluminium impellers, cycle time reductions of between 20 and 51% — along with improved machining accuracy — were recorded.
Featured on the stand of Hardinge Bridgeport (Hall 17, Stand 55) will be Talent P turning centres (a new range due to be launched in the UK), and the Bridgeport XT five-axis vertical machining centre.
Talent machines currently offer two structures (for short and standard lengths) built on a one-piece cast-iron base with roller linear guideways and ballscrews. As standard, the machines are supplied with ANSI-configured collet-ready spindles available in a choice of 42 or 51mm capacities. There is also a collet-ready sub-spindle with 42mm through-hole capacity.
Meanwhile, the Bridgeport XT features a travelling-beam structure to ensure high levels of geometric accuracy, and it is the first of a new generation of five-axis machining centres from Hardinge. A large-capacity 630mm-diameter trunnion table offering 350kg load capability is coupled with a swing diameter of 900mm.
