New VMC to support Envirokerb products

New VMC to support Envirokerb productsSheffield-based Pipeline & Drainage Systems (PDS) is using a Hyundai-Wia vertical machining centre to produce the numerous holes/slots required in its Envirokerb product range, which is described as “the lightest, strongest and greenest” kerb drainage solution available.

Manufactured from recycled materials, the composite kerb has the appearance of concrete; being a one-part kerb system — as opposed to conventional two-part concrete alternatives — means no breakages and faster installation.

Part of the USL Group, PDS needed to replace an ageing vertical machining centre that produced the required holes/slots in each section of drain.

It turned to local machine supplier, TW Ward CNC Machinery (Ward CNC) (www.wardcnc.com), knowing that a suitable machine would be in stock.

Operations manager Glyn Jones said: “The Hyundai-Wia F600D was selected for a number of reasons. First, it had the capacity to accommodate all kerb lengths; secondly, it had the capability to reliably produce the holes and slots — day in, day out.

It was also available from stock and was offered at the right price.

“The kerbs are produced in varying batches and are of different sizes. The Hyundai-Wia is proving to be much quicker — and a lot better — at consistently producing the holes, which are key to the success of the drainage system.”
