County Durham-based Con Mech Precision Ltd, a specialist machining company, has invested in a Doosan DNM 6700 vertical machining centre (VMC) — supplied by Leamington Spa-based Mills CNC (
www.millscnc.co.uk).
This followed an internal review of the company’s CNC machining capabilities; the Doosan machine was selected for its capacity, machining capabilities, immediate availability and cost-competitiveness.
It is now helping to meet growing demand, as well as undertaking work for Darlington-based sister company Henry Williams.
The DNM 6700 is a large-capacity vertical machining centre equipped with a 1,500 x 670mm work table and X/Y/Z axis travels of 1,300 x 670 x 625mm.
It also features a 118Nm high-torque direct-drive 18.7kW/12,000rev/min spindle.
Managing director Christine Ames (
www.conmecheng.com) said: “The working envelope of the machine was of critical importance.
The DNM 6700 enables us to machine larger components, as well as smaller parts in a single set-up.
"This means faster production and reduced part cycle times.
"Similarly, the cutting performance of the machine was important, and the Doosan’s powerful direct-drive spindle technology gives us the ability to achieve high removal rates when required, as well as fine finishes.
"It is a very versatile machine.”
To increase the flexibility of the DNM 6700 still further, Con Mech Precision invested in a fourth-axis unit for the machine — also supplied by Mills CNC.
