European aerospace firm slashes inspection times

European aerospace firm slashes inspection timesBath-based Rotary Precision Instruments (RPI UK), which makes positioning devices for high-accuracy rotary and angular inspection systems, has supplied a QuadSlimLine rotary table to Wenzel’s Bulgarian distributor.

This will be integrated into a Wenzel co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) to enable a European aerospace company to measure aero-engine disks, saving up to 40% in inspection time. Specifically designed as a fourth axis, the rotary table is accurate to +/-0.5 arc sec.

As well as significantly improving the overall measurement accuracy, it will increase the CMM’s available measuring volume, thereby giving the user greater flexibility in what can be measured.

Jim Palmer, RPI’s sales manager, said: “When it comes to measuring symmetrical or prismatic components, it is all about simplifying your measuring procedures, while increasing your CMM’s application range and effective measuring volume.”

RPI UK (www.rpiuk.com) has a large share of the ‘rotary tables for CMMs’ market, with more than 728 successful installations world-wide.

The QuadSlimLine is part of the company’s Quadrant range of CMM tables, which also includes the Quad Dual Purpose and the Quad Airmatic.

They come in a variety of diameters from 200mm to 1,500mm and can be fully integrated to the host machine controller.

RPI grew out of acquisitions from Optical Measuring Tools, Airmatic, Horstmannn and Eimeldingen; since the 1950s, it has been a leading supplier of rotary tables to the aerospace, automotive, power generation, machine tool, scientific and general engineering industries.
