Bromsgrove-based Davturn Ltd offers customers a complete turned-parts service and has a reputation for competitive pricing.
As a small company with minimal staff, administration throughout the production process needs to be as efficient as possible, and it has addressed this requirement by investing in PSL Datatrack production control software (
www.psldatatrack.com).
The company previously used its own Excel spreadsheet system to record customer order information and manage the business (
www.davturn.co.uk).
While this could store a lot of information, it was less than ideal for linking together all of the data relating to orders and providing comprehensive customer overviews.
Following a demonstration at the
MACH show, Davturn made the decision to invest in a number of core PSL Datatrack modules and two user licences to cover its administration, financial, purchasing and sales functions.
Managing director Mark Birley said: “Alongside a good-quality product, we have always tried to offer a professional service.
With PSL Datatrack, it became possible to streamline our quotation system and run a customer order from the initial works order through to the final invoice, making us much more efficient.
"It has reduced our administration times considerably, and the invoicing module is particularly helpful.”
Another positive for Mr Birley was that his initial choice of modules could be added to when required.
In 2016, a component-imaging function was added; this has allowed the company to store pictures of components, fixtures and special tooling — plus scanned images of drawings — and link them to a specific works order.
With further investments in PSL Datatrack on the cards, to cover functions including shopfloor data collection, process layouts and work in progress, Davturn is well positioned to grow its business and become ever-more productive without increasing the burden of administration.
