LEVC reaches electric-taxi milestone

LEVC reaches electric-taxi milestoneCoventry-based London EV Co (LEVC) recently saw the 2,500th TX electric taxi roll off the production line at its ‘state of the art’ factory in Ansty.

More than £500 million has been spent by Chinese parent company Geely since 2014 on developing and manufacturing the world’s most advanced taxi.

The TX eCity range extender powertrain allows the taxi to run in fully electric mode for up to 80 miles.

London’s cabbies are currently LEVC’s biggest market, with over 2,000 of its vehicles on the capital’s streets.

The TX is also in more than 20 cities around the UK — including Birmingham, Coventry, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh — and it has notched up sales in Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

CEO Joerg Hofmann said (www.levc.com): “On behalf of all who work for LEVC — from our new factory in Ansty to our long-standing base in Brewery Road and our dealers in the UK and Europe — I am extremely proud of this momentous achievement.

"When this project began in 2014, we set out to make the world’s most advanced taxi, by distilling over 70 years of cab-building knowledge into an all-new leader in urban zero-emissions mobility.

"The endorsement from drivers is compelling, while passengers love the TX’s comfort, space and connectivity features.

“We are proud to be supporting London in its efforts to improve air quality — and doing the same across the UK.

"In the very near future, we will be further driving TX sales in Europe and expanding our range with a new LCV.

"Our goal is to be the leading European provider of green commercial mobility solutions.”
