Sapphire Engineering - a jewel in the crownA North East company is ‘engineering’ a bright future on the back of new contract wins and ambitious plans to relocate to larger premises (sapphireengineering.co.uk).

Tyne and Wear-based Sapphire Engineering, which provides engineering services and skilled labour to regional and
national customers, has witnessed strong demand in the last six months, as it targets continued growth in core markets.

With a turnover exceeding £1 million, the company has recently won new orders worth more than £250,000 from customer that include TT Electronics, Greggs, TRW Electronics and De La Rue.

It has also won a contract from the NBT Group to build and install a number of automated part-vending machines.

The company, established in 2003, is looking to improve capacity with a move in the near future to a new 7,000m2 factory unit, which will be built on a plot of land that it has purchased in Hebburn.

Managing director Alan Hedley expects Sapphire to retain a strong pipeline of work over the coming 18 months, as manufacturers continue to ramp up their operations and invest in additional resources.

He said: “We are now busier than ever, and we are involved in developing new projects across the region and beyond, which is extremely encouraging.

“As our customers’ investment and growth plans come to fruition, we are seeing steady demand for skilled labour, which is also augmenting the growth of our core engineering experience and technical skills.”
