GE Aviation/a> ‘broke ground’ on its new lean engine component-manufacturing facility for both civil, military aviation and aero-derivative applications at the beginning of this month. It will be built on 53 acres at the Miami Valley Research Park in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Kristie West, GE Aviation’s general manager, said: “This project is setting the stage for the future of this business by allowing us to serve our customers better due to lean productivity and an increase in flexibility as a workforce; together, these will improve and maintain our competitiveness for the future. I am extremely proud of this project and where we are as a team.”
The 280,000ft

facility is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2022 and be fully operational by the end of 2022. It will optimise manufacturing operations and advanced technology development into one facility, combining operations from seven buildings into one.
GE currently has about 400 hourly and salaried staff who will be located at the new facility, which will focus on the development of new technologies as well as the introduction of new products.
It will develop and manufacture gas turbine engine components and mechanical systems for a variety of industries, including aviation, space, defence, and oil and gas.
