Improving accuracy and productivity

Improving accuracy and productivity Since the installation of a three-axis Quaser MV 184 E vertical machining centre from Hardinge (www.hardinge.co.uk) at the Margam, South Wales, premises of Clean Plastic Mouldings, the company has used this machine for over 90% of its tool-room work, resulting in significant improvements in repeatable accuracy and productivity.

CPM director Hayden Dyer says: “Two of the three partners are time-served tool makers, so when we were looking to replace an older machine that had been the cornerstone of the tool-room, we were fairly deman-ding. Hardinge recommended the Quaser, which was a new name to us but offered an exceptional combination of build quality and reliability, plus Heidenhain control.”

The 184 E has a BIG-PLUS spindle system fitted as standard, along with a 30-tool ATC. Offering face milling, end milling, drilling and tapping, it has an exceptional heavy-duty steel-cutting capability, which is particularly useful for refurbishing stainless-steel or alloy tools.
