F1 supplier benefits from faster computer technology

F1 supplier benefits from faster computer technologyAtlas Composite Technologies Ltd — an East Midlands engineering company with a turnover of more than £9 million that makes components for industry sectors that include motorsport, aerospace, satellite communications, and Formula One (F1) cars — recently sought the services of Your IT Department, an award-winning IT support and cyber security company), to speed up its computer system with a major upgrade.

Following a detailed technical audit, a plan was formulated — one that would replace the Derbyshire company’s IT infrastructure with a super-fast network that would include tighter security features. The project subsequently involved installing two faster servers, increasing cyber security with a new firewall, and the setting up of a secure VPN (virtual private network) to give staff safer and quicker access to the computer network.

Ben Swain, Atlas Composite Technologies’ managing director, said the improvements — recently completed at the firm’s Ilkeston site — had already made a big difference. “With the company growing, we realised that our IT infrastructure needed upgrading to cope with the increased amount of data. For example, we use CAD/CAM software, and it is important to keep our complex projects backed up and secure.

“The impact of the IT upgrade has been extremely impressive and has made a big difference to the smooth running of the company. The team at Your IT even worked out-of-hours, including on Sundays, to keep disruption to a minimum. Moreover, the IT transformation means we are now well placed to gain certification in the Government-backed cyber security scheme Cyber Essentials Plus, which helps organisations demonstrate their ability to protect against common cyber attacks.”

Lee Hewson, the managing director of Eastwood-based Your IT Department, said: “We are very pleased that this major project has given Atlas real peace of mind that their IT not only runs faster, but is secure and well maintained.”
