Ceratizit’s WTX drill range minimises number of tools needed

Ceratizit’s WTX drill range minimises number of tools neededManuel Keller, a technical product manager at the global tooling company Ceratizit, says that in modern manufacturing, companies are faced with the challenge of efficiently and precisely machining a range of different materials. “However, frequent tool changes and the need to use specialised drills for each material inevitably lead to increased costs. Our universal WTX-UNI drill range provides the solution to these problems, enabling precision drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron and hardened steels up to 54HRC, thereby reducing the selection of tools needed and increasing the efficiency of the machining processes.

“The new WTX-UNI range offers an entirely new geometry with patented features, and they are the first solid-carbide drilling tools made from CT-GS20Y. The WTX-UNI has two guide lands and is available with diameters ranging from 3 to 20mm for hole depths 3xD and 5xD — with or without through coolant and in shank variants HA/HB/HE. Furthermore, a patented end geometry with convex main cutting edge and a point angle of 140deg ensures high tool stability combined with high levels of self-centring; and with the modern DPA74S coating and ‘expanding flute design’, chips are evacuated without obstruction.”

He added: “WTX-Quattro, the version with four guide lands, are always equipped with coolant holes and are available in hole depths of 5xD, 8xD and 12xD, with a special feature on the latter two versions being that the point angle is changed to 135deg, and only the top section is equipped with four guide lands and the DPA74S coating.”

Meanwhile, the WTX-Deep UNI deep-hole drills, available in the UK from Sheffield-based Ceratizit UK and Ireland Ltd, can be used universally with a wide range of materials, with a particular focus on ISO P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron) and in some cases ISO S (heat-resistant).

The stock range covers hole depths of 16xD to 50xD and is available in the diameter range of 3 to 14mm or 3 to 8mm (40xD and 50xD). Imperial dimensions are also available. With the 3xD and 5xD variants in the new WTX-UNI range, there are also high-performance pilot drills available.
