PTG Holroyd Precision Rotors, the specialist division of
Precision Technologies Group (PTG) dedicated to manufacturing helical components, screws, and rotors, has expanded its positive-displacement blower screw production capabilities at its Spartanburg, South Carolina facility.
Originally opened in 2018, the Spartanburg site was established to serve North America’s leading manufacturers of industrial air, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. The facility represented a major investment by PTG, aimed at delivering ultra-precise helical components to a growing market. Now, in response to a 30% year-on-year increase in blower screw sales, PTG has made a further strategic investment to boost output and meet rising demand around the USA.
Colin Carr, managing director of PTG Holroyd Precision Rotors, said: “Manufactured to the tightest of tolerances, our energy-efficient screw blowers, twin-screw helical blowers and oil-free compressor screws are renowned across sectors as wide-ranging as food and drink, dry bulk materials handling, pharmaceuticals, power generation, pulp, paper and petrochemicals.
“The increase in capability at Spartanburg means we are now able to manufacture 25% more precision screw sets per week on a single shift, with the option to operate multiple shifts 24/7 whenever customer requirements dictate. This is an extremely exciting development for us and reflects the confidence that North American blower manufacturers place in our products.”
The upgraded blower line now runs alongside PTG Holroyd’s conventional helical rotor and component manufacturing line. It is equipped to precision mill components ranging from 125mm in diameter and 300mm in length, up to 300mm in diameter and 1,000mm in length — demonstrating the company’s commitment to versatility and precision.
Advanced production facilitiesPTG Holroyd Precision Rotors operates from advanced production facilities in the USA, UK, and China. It is the sister company to PTG Holroyd Precision, the UK-based manufacturer of gear, rotor, screw, and thread milling and grinding machines — tools that are widely regarded as producing some of the world’s most accurate helical components.
Further underscoring its expertise in Roots-type blower manufacturing, PTG Holroyd Precision recently launched the 4EX-R-BL, a next-generation Roots-type blower and helical rotor milling machine. This new model replaces the original 4EX-R and introduces dual-capability production, allowing manufacturers greater flexibility.
The redesigned machine bed and worktable accommodate components up to 500mm in diameter, with increased bed length and width to support the higher cutter forces required for blower screw milling. The bed height has been lowered by 150mm compared to its predecessor, and additional buttress supports have been added to enhance stability during flute milling. The maximum cutter width has also been increased from 320 to 400mm, enabling the production of larger rotor profiles.
PTG continues to lead the way in precision engineering. With its brands — PTG Holroyd, PTG Powerstir Friction Stir Welding, and Holroyd Precision Rotors — the group has built a reputation for high-precision machine tool design and manufacturing for specialised applications. Its portfolio includes advanced tools for producing complex helical components such as compressor rotors, pump screws, and high-accuracy gears, as well as Powerstir® machines for friction stir welding advanced alloys used in transport applications.
From refrigeration and air-conditioning to aerospace, medical equipment, and high-end automotive, Holroyd Precision Rotors’ ultra-precision helical components are integral to a wide range of industries. PTG also offers advanced technical consulting services, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in precision manufacturing.
