Colchester Storm now available with 4+1 axis capabilityAvailable in the UK from Elland-based Colchester Machine Tool Solutions Ltd (CMTS), the Storm vertical machining centre (VMC) range offers a comprehensive solution for high-precision milling, designed to meet the diverse needs of the engineering, manufacturing, and education sectors. Available with the speed and efficiency of linear guideways (VL series) or the stability of box ways (VH series), Storm VMCs are robust with high-performance machining capabilities.

Each machine in the Storm VMC range features a rigid construction that ensures fast, smooth, and accurate machining, while maintaining a compact footprint to save valuable floor space. The machines are also ergonomically designed with the operator in mind, delivering both comfort and ease of use. Furthermore they are available with Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain CNC control systems, and integrate advanced safety features as standard.

In a new development, Colchester is now offering optional fourth and fifth axis trunnion tables for the Storm VMC, designed to take machine-shop productivity and precision to new heights. Engineered for manufacturers who demand more from every cycle, the trunnion table delivers simultaneous four-axis positioning with a fixed fifth axis, allowing operators to: machine multiple faces of a part in one setup; perform angular and complex contouring with minimal refixturing; reduce cycle times and eliminate human error; increase overall dimensional accuracy and surface finish; and improve spindle uptime with fewer setups and faster transitions. This additional functionality is ideal for sub-contractors in a range of industrial sectors, including aerospace, medical, energy, automotive and precision engineering.
