100 machines and one vision for Endurance

An initial inquiry has turned into a long-term collaboration with Grob which has been instrumental in the Italian company’s success

100 machines and one vision for EnduranceThe long-standing relationship between Italy-based Endurance SpA and Grob has grown from an initial technical enquiry into a mature strategic partnership, built over more than a decade of close collaboration. For Andrea Tarditi, technical director at Endurance SpA, who has overseen product and process development as well as the commissioning of new machining lines, the contribution of Grob’s technology and project support has been instrumental in Endurance’s success within the European powertrain market.

Endurance SpA, part of Endurance Technologies Ltd, produces aluminium die-cast and machined components for major European OEMs, with the powertrain sector firmly at the centre of its operations. Mr Tarditi explained: “We concentrate on components for thermal engines, hybrid drives, electric motors for electromobility, and new PHEV/MHEV gearboxes.”

As the sector undergoes rapid technological change, the company sees its position as increasingly critical. The first contact between the two companies came in 2009, when Grob began offering its single‑spindle G‑module to Tier One suppliers.

GrobMr Tarditi reflected: “With the support of Grob’s representative SIMU in Turin, we were quickly able to establish a direct connection with Grob. That was the start of our initial discussions about machine investments and complete production lines.”

Soon after, visits to several Volkswagen plants in Germany proved pivotal. He continued: “We were able to see Grob machining lines in full production and get direct feedback from the production managers at VW — this experience was crucial for us in successfully planning our future projects.”

Mr Tarditi is clear that the collaboration extends far beyond machinery supply. He points to a combination of technical expertise, project discipline, and strong personal relationships as the real foundation of the partnership. He said: “Grob’s technical expertise in the task of machining powertrain components is outstanding. They know every step of the process and deliver stable, highly productive solutions.”

He noted that Grob’s structured project management, with its focus on timely delivery, quality, and productivity, has been equally decisive. The same attention to detail has been evident at every stage, from planning to installation and ramp‑up of operations.

Human aspect

The human aspect has also played a major role. Regular visits to the Grob facility in Mindelheim in Germany helped forge close connections between the teams. Mr Tarditi said: “People make the difference. With the support of SIMU, and Antonio Goia in particular, we were able to visit Grob regularly and build close relationships with all teams — from sales and project management to the technicians on site.”

What began as a straightforward supplier relationship has since evolved into a genuinely collaborative partnership. He continued: “What was once a classic customer‑supplier relationship is now a strategic partnership between equals. We know each other well, can make decisions quickly, and solve problems directly.” This familiarity has helped accelerate new programmes and streamline day‑to‑day operations.

GrobGrob’s machines are now deeply embedded in Endurance’s manufacturing operations. Known for their precision, reliability, and robustness, they play a central role in the production of high‑volume powertrain components. Their performance has been particularly important in meeting the demanding cycle‑time and quality requirements of new parts for Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche.

A milestone moment for both companies came with the installation of the 100th Grob machine at Endurance — an achievement Mr Tarditi described as both technically and strategically significant. It reflects how the partnership has strengthened Endurance’s position with both its long-standing and newly acquired OEM customers. He said that Grob’s technology, has been crucial in helping the company build its reputation as a reliable and innovative supplier, and looking ahead, the partnership shows no signs of slowing down.

Mr Tarditi said: “Our next goal is the 200th machine. I am sure that we will celebrate this success together again.” The two companies expect their close cooperation to remain central to Endurance’s ability to respond to market demands and expand its position in the evolving powertrain landscape. Reflecting on the journey so far. He concluded: “What began with initial discussions in 2009 has developed into a long-standing, stable, and valuable collaboration — and will continue to shape us in the years to come.”
