Stäubli launches latest robot for medical applicationsStäubli Robotics has launched the TX2-60L MedX Ready, a high-precision six-axis robot designed specifically to support medical and surgical applications, strengthening the company’s long-standing presence in the medical robotics sector.

The TX2-60L MedX Ready has been developed within an ISO 13485 compliant Quality Management System and engineered to meet the demanding hygiene, safety and integration requirements of clinical environments. The robot is available with MedXguiding, an intuitive manual guidance function aimed at simplifying integration and enhancing usability for medical device manufacturers and system integrators.

It is intended to support a wide range of clinical applications, including surgery, rehabilitation, imaging and diagnostics. Stäubli works closely with medical technology manufacturers and integrators to co develop robotic solutions that meet strict clinical and regulatory requirements, with deployed systems already supporting neurosurgery, orthopaedics, oncology and other specialist medical fields.

Stäubli’s medical robotics heritage dates back to 1985, when the world’s first documented robot-assisted surgical procedure (a neurosurgical biopsy) was performed using a Stäubli PUMA 560 Unimation robot. Since then, the company’s robots have been used in a number of landmark medical systems.

At the centre of the TX2-60L MedX Ready is a compact and rigid six-axis arm engineered for precision critical procedures. The system is designed to integrate smoothly into operating rooms and medical device architectures, while maintaining high standards of cleanability and safety.

Guidance and precision

A key feature is MedXguiding, which allows clinicians to manually guide the robot with configurable levels of transparency, compliance and operating modes. This enables precise instrument positioning while ensuring controlled and safe motion. The function is designed to reduce set-up times, support ergonomic workflows and provide a natural, responsive interface during clinical use.

The robot is developed and produced at an ISO 13485 certified site, with full documentation and process control aligned to medical device requirements. Each TX2-60L MedX Ready is supplied with a comprehensive validation and documentation package, including certificates, inspection reports, component traceability and production checklists. This approach is intended to reduce regulatory workloads, minimise integration risk and accelerate time to market for medical device manufacturers.

Rudolf Weiss, global head of life robotics at Stäubli said: “With TX2-60L MedX Ready, we’re giving medical device manufacturers a precise, cleanable, and safety first platform that integrates seamlessly into clinical systems, so innovation can move faster from concept to operating room. Stäubli supports every step, from certification to preventive maintenance, ensuring reliable performance so you can stay focused on your vision and success.”

The TX2-60L MedX Ready combines high performance industrial robotics with enhanced safety, flexible connectivity and a medical grade design. Backed by Stäubli’s global service network and lifecycle support, it offers medical technology developers a robust foundation for bringing advanced clinical solutions to market.

While Stäubli robots are not classified as medical devices in their own right, the company positions them as critical enabling components that enhance the accuracy, reliability and productivity of modern medical systems.
