A specialist supplier of precision wire for critical aircraft components is targeting an aerospace boost when it returns to the Farnborough International Airshow next week (20-24 July).
Alloy Wire International (AWI), which supports customers across 75 different countries, has seen a 20% upturn in the level of orders for material used in parts ranging from springs and fire detection wire to fasteners and electrical instruments.
The UK-based company will be showcasing Nimonic 90, Waspaloy, Haynes 282 and Inconel 718 as part of its 62-strong selection of exotic alloys on stand 1320 in Hall 1, with interest expected to come from suppliers to both the commercial and defence sectors.
These grades are extremely popular for end use applications that need to be extremely temperature and corrosion resistant.
Paul Chatterley, sales executive at Alloy Wire International, commented: “This is our seventh time at Farnborough and is a show we believe will help us grow our aerospace revenues considerably, as all key decision makers, engineers and procurement specialists arrive from around the world.
“We have seen a £150,000 increase in orders so far in 2026 and believe there is further opportunities to extend this, with an increase in defence spending both at home and overseas.”
He continued: “Customers have access to more than 400 tonnes of DFARS-approved material in stock at any one time and our three-week lead times continue to be the best in the industry.”
Alloy Wire International, which has held the AS9100 quality accreditation for more than 13 years, has invested a further £1.1 million into developing its world class wire manufacturing facility in the West Midlands.
The recent spend has included taking on an additional unit to increase capacity and throughput, a new furnace and essential rolling equipment.
This means AWI can continue to support customers against a volatile economic backdrop and major increases in defence spending, with clients able to order wire from 0.025mm (.001″) to 21mm (.827″) in small batches and medium volumes.
“Although a fourth-tier supplier to the aerospace sector, we know our material plays an important role in engine components and high temperature parts, such as sealing rings and fuel pipes. There’s tens of different applications to be fair,” Mr Chatterley added.
“Our team of technical experts have years of experience working with customers to come up with wire specifications that match exact requirements, including intense heat and corrosion resistance and, let’s not forget, components destined for safety critical environments.”
He concluded: “The other big feature of the Farnborough International Air Show is the lessons we learn. It’s such a hotbed of thinking, best practice and latest trends that we can actively absorb, bringing them back to our factory and then implementing them on our shopfloor.”
