Fuchs Lubricants has secured Boeing BAC 5008 Sections 5-6 approval for its ECOCOOL GLOBAL 1000 metalworking fluid, strengthening the product’s credentials for use in demanding aerospace machining applications.
The water-miscible metalworking fluid has been developed for the machining of titanium, nickel-based alloys, aluminium and other difficult-to-machine super alloys commonly used throughout the aerospace sector.
According to Fuchs, the fluid combines high-performance lubricity additives with effective cooling, low-foam characteristics, excellent wetting properties and strong biological control to deliver extended fluid life in challenging production environments.
The approval is regarded as a significant milestone because Boeing BAC 5008 is one of the aerospace industry's most demanding specifications for fluids used in manufacturing processes.
Fuchs said the latest certification adds to a growing list of aerospace approvals already held by ECOCOOL GLOBAL 1000, including Airbus approval under the latest AIPS 00-00-010 specification, as well as Safran PR6300 and Rolls-Royce CSS 129131 Category 2 approvals.
The company says ECOCOOL GLOBAL 1000 has been formulated without boron, sulphur, chlorine, secondary amines, monoethanolamine (MEA), triethanolamine (TEA) or registered biocides. Fuchs also highlights its environmental, health and safety profile, noting that the product has been certified as non-irritating by a panel of clinical pathologists to improve operator acceptance and workplace conditions.

Fuchs says the fluid is specified for use with difficult-to-machine aerospace materials and supports process reliability, operator acceptance and compliance with global regulatory requirements.

Fuchs developed ECOCOOL GLOBAL 1000 to address increasing demands from aerospace manufacturers as machining tolerances tighten, advanced alloys generate higher cutting temperatures and chemical regulations become more restrictive.
