LMT Tools has unveiled a new strategic direction aimed at helping manufacturers simplify increasingly complex machining operations, as the industry faces growing pressure from advanced materials, product variation and persistent skills shortages.
Under the banner ‘Machining Success. Simplified’, the company is bringing together the expertise of its three core brands, LMT Fette, LMT Kieninger and LMT Onsrud, to provide customers with more integrated tooling solutions, process support and application knowledge. The brands collectively cover areas including milling, threading, gear cutting and advanced tooling solutions.
According to LMT Tools, manufacturers are being challenged by the increasing use of high-strength steels, aluminium, lightweight alloys and composite materials, while also having to accommodate a greater variety of component designs and production batch sizes. Shorter product development cycles, global supply chains and a shortage of skilled workers are adding further complexity to manufacturing operations.
The company's new approach is designed to address these challenges by focusing on the complete machining process, from tool selection through to customer-specific solutions, production start-up support and ongoing optimisation of manufacturing operations.
LMT Tools says the strategy is intended to deliver simpler machining processes, improved process reliability, lower costs per component and easier access to specialist technical expertise.
A central element of the initiative is closer collaboration between the company's three established brands. While each has traditionally served different applications and markets, their specialists will increasingly work together to solve customer machining challenges and develop tailored solutions.
The company combines a global footprint with local technical support and operates production and technology facilities in several countries, including Germany, France, the Czech Republic, India, China and the United States. Key manufacturing centres include sites in Lahr and Schwarzenbek in Germany, as well as operations in Pune, India, and Nanjing, China.
LMT Tools said future innovation efforts will be driven by customer applications, with research and development focused on creating tool concepts, geometries and technologies that deliver measurable improvements in machining performance.
The company also plans to continue expanding its application expertise and customer-specific engineering services, while leveraging cooperation between its brands to identify further growth opportunities.
Oliver Thomas, managing director of the LMT Tools Group, said: “For our customers, our new strategy means less effort is required to master complex machining tasks.
“Specifically, this means: a single point of contact, consolidated expertise, and solutions that are precisely tailored to each application.”
LMT Tools employs around 800 people worldwide and serves sectors including automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering, energy and medical technology. The business develops both standard and customised tooling solutions designed to improve productivity, increase process reliability and reduce manufacturing costs.
By aligning its technology, engineering expertise and brand capabilities more closely, the company believes it can help manufacturers achieve greater efficiency while reducing the complexity associated with modern machining operations.
