Using two drills to machine a flat-bottom hole is time-consuming and increases the likelihood of mistakes occurring. To resolve this issue and reduce down-time, TaeguTec (
www.taegutec.com) has extended its proven DrillRush line with the introduction of a flat-face-geometry head for flat-bottom machining of diameters ranging from 8 to 25.5mm. These tools eliminate the need to use a two-step process, shortening cycle times and increasing productivity.
To keep this drill head cost-effective, TaeguTec has made it available for its current DrillRush line of bodies of a corresponding size. Furthermore, the combination of the new flat-bottom drill head and DrillRush body offers excellent chip breaking.
The new head is specifically — but not exclusively — designed for applications like bolt-hole machining, which requires a nearly-flat-bottom hole; the new head is also designed for machining a wide range of workpiece materials.
Both the flat-bottom head and DrillRush body are coated with TaeguTec’s TT9080 PVD grade, which provides high levels of resistance to wear and chipping and extends tool life.
Moreover, the combination of the new flat-bottom head and DrillRush body can be used with TaeguTec’s recently released chamfering rings, which can undertake drilling and chamfering in a single operation.
Another option for DrillRush tools is special plugs that accept an internal thread for coolant connection when these tools are used on lathes.
