The complete range of Tschorn precision measuring probes, tool-length setters and zero-point setters is now available from Yeovil-based YMT Ltd (www.ymtltd.co.uk). These German-manufactured setting and set-up aids are designed to help operators maximise spindle up-time by minimising the time required to change from one machining operation to the next.
Offered as three models — SavePlus, Standard and Large Dial Face — the company’s 3D-Tester probe features a sleek design that provides good access to the raw material, casting or machined part that needs to be checked. The dial has a 0.01mm graduated full-scale dial, and the instrument can be used for measuring radial run-out and profile probing.
With protection of the measuring unit a priority, large travel paths — limited by mechanical stops — have been integrated into the probing unit. Furthermore. the probing-unit tip has an undercut ‘breaking point’; this ensures that a simple repair can be easily and economically achieved if a probe is damaged by excessive force.
The standard probe tip features a 3mm-diameter carbide ball, while the longer-tip version has a 6mm-diameter touch ball. Probes are non-magnetic to avoid any deflection errors.
