Rigid five-axis machining centre Thames Ditton-based NCMT Ltd (www.ncmt.co.uk) is now offering an upgraded version of the Okuma Genos M460V-5AX five-axis machining centre; it features multiple hardware and software solutions for accurate and productive operations and is available at a competitive entry-level price.

This machine accommodates parts up to 600 x 400mm and weighing up to 300kg. It comes with a 48-position tool magazine.

The spindle, which is rated at 22kW 15,000rev/min (199Nm maximum torque), features maintenance-free oil-mist lubrication and through-spindle coolant; it also comes with a three-year spindle warranty that is not limited by the number of operating hours.

Also featured are a Renishaw RMP60 touch probe, absolute scales for the X, Y and Z axes, Machining Navi for reducing chatter and a five-axis Auto Tuning System for compensating geometric errors (a positioning accuracy of 2µm in X, Y and Z is achieved).

The M460V-5AX also features Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept, which includes a symmetric box-build double-column of cast-iron construction (the machine has an all-up weight of 8,300kg); and to eliminate temperature influences from the coolant and hot chips, the machine has a ‘thermo-shield’ design.

There are also five temperature sensors in the machine and three in the spindle; these measure temperature changes and allow for an active compensation of thermal deformation.
