Tungaloy UK Ltd, Wolverhampton (
www.tungaloy.com/UK), has extended its DoTwistBall range of profile-milling cutters to include new insert radii, adding ‘05 (R5.0) and 06 (R6.0) inserts’ to the 04 (R4.0).
The expanded range of DoTwistBall cutters incorporates an innovative design that allows two different types of inserts to fit the same shank.
Furthermore, the insert features a helically twisted design that fits a matching helical profile in the seat pocket and helps to maximise insert retention.
This allows DoTwistBall tools to provide stable machining in demanding 3-D profiling and high-feed applications.
The MJ radius insert, which can be used for profiling mould-and-die parts, features a large cross-section that has been designed to ‘absorb the cutting forces’ and provide higher levels of reliability and performance than conventional round inserts.
The cutting edge also features a large inclination angle for smooth chip evacuation.
The high-feed HJ geometry insert offers ‘highly efficient machining’ via a 30% greater cutting depth and feed rate than ‘conventional high-feed inserts’.
The maximum depth of cut for the existing 04 insert is 1.3mm, while the new 06 insert accommodates depths of 2mm, allowing tools to be used for various operations, including shouldering, facing, slotting, pocketing and helical interpolation.
Two standard grades are available: AH3135 for steel and stainless steel; and AH120 for cast iron. The cutter body line-up is available with a shank type, modular type and bore type for all three insert sizes, along with various choices of tool reach.
